"Hope"

"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering;

for he is faithful who promised." Hebrews 10:23

Some time back I saw the words on a T-shirt that a woman was wearing, "Hope Is For Suckers." Certainly, being naive or gullible can be foolish and dangerous. Disappointment and heartache can be the tragic ending of unfounded optimism. But not allowing oneself to have hope is a sad and cynical way to view life. Biblical hope is unique; it is confident trust in God and what He is doing in the world and our lives. That's something everyone needs!

The world's hope has a question mark with it; our Hope has an exclamation point with it. There is no guess work in the Christian Hope, but one with a sure foundation. Notice the words in our verse, "for He is faithful that promised." Our Lord an be trusted. Sure, we may not understand all that goes on in our world, or even our own lives. But, our hope is in His care! Because of His great love, we can rest assured that He cares for us. So, the T-shirt message is wrong. Our hope is not for suckers, it is for the saved. May we so live that others will be attracted to Him through us!
