"The Inward Man & Not the Outward"

"But the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature:
because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looked on the outward
appearance, but the Lord looked on the heart."                    1 Samuel 16:7

Sadly, many people use this verse to dress like slobs; even at church. This verse has nothing to do with how you dress. This verse has to do with how God chooses those to serve Him in a major way. God never chooses a person based on how big, bright, smart, well-known or talented they are. David's older brother physically looked to fit the part to be the next king of Israel, but he was not God's choice.
Though David physically did not look like king material, he was God's choice. He would prove to be Israel's greatest king. God saw the inward part of David. He had a heart to please his God. David never sought greatness. Greatness came his way because of his devotions to his God and the people around him.
The good news is, God will call and use the most unlikely of people. Yes, He does use those who are educated and knowledgeable and have the looks of a leader, but they too, must have a heart for God. Just remember, God looks on the inward person when it comes to doing those special things for Him.
