"Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down,
and shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto your bosom.
For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."
                                                                                                                                                        - Luke 6:38

Giving reflects the real spirit of any saved person. For most church people, real giving means putting a few dollars in the offering each week. For other church members, giving only the tithe is their position. That in itself is a great position since most church people really don't tithe. There is a deeper and more abundant giving yet. Giving reflects the personal commitment in the heart of each believer, and the Holy Spirit is the One who must prompt both the amount of giving as well as the proper attitude toward giving.
Beyond the tithe, there is a higher principle in giving. That is giving according to love and grace. This grace giving is reflected in the above verse. The Bible teaches that God loves a "cheerful" giver. The cheerfulness comes as a result of your obeying the Holy Spirit in your giving. Plus, this grace giving has a bonus to it. Not only does it help the one receiving, but it also helps the one giving. Notice the little word, "it", found twice in the above verse. God says that whatsoever the "it" is in your giving, if done according to grace, you shall receive it back. You will receive back in good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over "that" which you give in love and grace.
Very few saved people ever really reach this point in their giving. Don't you be one of them. Learn to give according to love and grace.
